More Detailed Description
This exceptional specimen features luminous, translucent white druzy calcite crystals perched atop a shimmering bed of pink heulandite blades. The calcite crystals exhibit sharp rhombohedral form with frosted, sparkling surfaces that catch light from every angle, creating that coveted “diamond” shimmer collectors love.
The underlying heulandite displays characteristic wedge-shaped crystals in soft blush tones, forming a textured and dimensional matrix. The interplay between the smooth calcite faces and the radiating zeolite clusters creates striking visual contrast and structural harmony.
Specimens from Maharashtra are world-renowned for their aesthetic zeolite combinations, and this piece represents that legacy beautifully — balanced, bright, and naturally sculptural.
Locality
Maharashtra, India
Deccan Traps Basalt Formation
Western India’s Deccan volcanic province is one of the most prolific mineral localities in the world, particularly famous for zeolites and associated calcite formations found within ancient lava flow cavities.
Geological Formation
This specimen formed inside gas vesicles within massive basalt flows of the Deccan Traps. When volcanic lava cooled approximately 66 million years ago, trapped gas bubbles created open cavities.
Over time, mineral-rich hydrothermal fluids circulated through these cavities, depositing layers of zeolite minerals such as heulandite. Later mineralizing events introduced calcium-rich fluids, allowing calcite crystals to grow on the zeolite substrate.
The result: a layered mineral story recorded in crystal form.
Mineralogy Information
Calcite (CaCO₃)
• Crystal System: Trigonal
• Habit: Rhombohedral
• Hardness: 3 (Mohs)
• Cleavage: Perfect in three directions
Heulandite (Zeolite Group)
• Crystal System: Monoclinic
• Habit: Tabular / wedge-shaped crystals
• Hardness: 3.5–4
• Hydrated aluminosilicate mineral
Heulandite belongs to the zeolite family, known for forming in volcanic environments and displaying beautiful pastel coloration due to trace elements.
Key Features
• Bright, sharp calcite crystal faces
• Sparkling druzy texture
• Attractive pink matrix color
• Strong three-dimensional structure
• Excellent light reflection
• Stable display specimen
• Natural, untouched formation
Geological Era
Late Cretaceous Period
Formed approximately 66 million years ago within the Deccan Traps volcanic province — one of Earth’s largest flood basalt events.
Rock Formation
Host Rock: Basalt (Igneous – Extrusive Volcanic Rock)
The specimen formed within vesicular basalt created by immense lava flows covering much of western India.
Historical & Folklore Notes
Calcite has historically been associated with clarity and amplification of energy across many cultures. In ancient Rome, calcite marble was used in construction and sculpture.
Zeolites, including heulandite, gained prominence in the 18th century when Swedish mineralogist Axel Fredrik Cronstedt identified them as minerals that appeared to “boil” when heated due to water release — hence the name “zeolite,” meaning “boiling stone.”
Why Collectors Love It
• Classic Indian zeolite association
• Beautiful color contrast
• Sparkling cabinet appeal
• Textural complexity
• Highly displayable shape
• Recognizable and desirable locality
• One-of-a-kind mineral art
This is the type of specimen that draws attention immediately in a display case.
Display & Care Instructions
• Display in a stable cabinet or shelf
• Avoid prolonged water exposure (zeolites are hydrated minerals)
• Keep out of direct harsh sunlight to preserve color
• Dust gently with compressed air or a soft brush
• Handle carefully — calcite has perfect cleavage
Shipping & Handling
• Professionally packed with cushioning materials
• Fully insured shipping
• Tracking provided
• Ships from the USA
• Carefully stabilized to protect delicate crystals
We understand the fragility of zeolite specimens and pack accordingly.
Metaphysical Perspective / Opinion
Calcite is often regarded as a powerful amplifier of intention and clarity, while pink heulandite is believed by crystal practitioners to promote emotional healing and heart-centered awareness.
Associated Chakras:
• Heart Chakra (Anahata)
• Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
Suggested Mantras:
“I allow clarity and compassion to guide me.”
“I am open to growth and higher awareness.”
A Metaphysical Nod
This pairing of sparkling calcite and gentle pink heulandite symbolizes balance between clarity of mind and softness of heart — structure resting upon compassion.
(As always, metaphysical properties are shared as cultural and spiritual perspectives rather than scientific claims.)
